Helping Kentucky Families Through Your Federal Tax Credit Contribution
Every child deserves access to a school where they can thrive. Your contribution to a qualified Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) helps families cover tuition, books, transportation, and more. Because this program is federally funded, your gift is returned to you as a 100% tax credit, so you can make a real impact at no additional cost.
Your support helps students find the right school, strengthens local communities, and opens doors for Kentucky families.
Tax Credit Details
The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program is designed to be simple, transparent, and rewarding.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Who can give: Individual taxpayers only (no corporations or foundations)
- Tax credit limit: Up to $1,700 per taxpayer per year (no contribution limit)
- Credit value: 100% of your contribution
- Carryforward option: Unused credits can be carried forward for up to five years
- Eligible recipients: Must be qualified SGOs operating in participating states
- Charitable deduction: Contributions that receive a credit may not also be claimed as a charitable deduction
- Designation rules: Donors may direct their contribution to support a specific school, but not an individual student
Think of it this way: instead of sending that portion of your taxes to Washington, you can send it to help a Kentucky student instead.
