HB1 Passes the Senate, Goes to the Governor for Signature
The Kentucky Senate passed House Bill 1, meaning the Bill now goes to the Governor for his signature to become law. He may allow the Bill to become law without his signature or he may veto the Bill. The Governor has ten (10) legislative days (excludes Sundays) from when the Bill is delivered, to make his decision.
HB1 assigns the Secretary of State, rather than the Governor, to opt in to the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit program, which is expected to raise significant funds to help families attend a school of their choice, whether a public or private school.
Rarely has a bill moved so quickly through both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly. The Bill was introduced in the House on February 19th and passed in the Senate on February 27th; eight (8) legislative days. It is a strong indication of the overwhelming support for helping Kentucky’s children.
